Support for Film, TV & Media Production
Specialist safety and logistics support for productions working in remote, exposed or unpredictable environments.
Behind the Scenes, Ahead of the Risk
When productions move off-grid, into the jungle, up the mountain, or deep into unfamiliar territory, the margin for error narrows quickly. Whether it’s for natural history, adventure, survival, or documentary content, complex locations demand more than basic risk assessments and a medic on standby.
Crux Outdoors supports film, TV and media teams with location-specific risk consultancy, safety planning, and on-the-ground reconnaissance. With real-world expedition and adventure leadership experience, we bring calm, structured oversight to shoots where traditional production safety protocols aren’t enough.
We work across pre-production, location planning and live filming phases, offering both consultancy and field presence. Our work integrates seamlessly with production logistics, helping protect your crew, your equipment, and your schedule, without compromising your creative ambition.

Case Studies
ITN Productions – Risk Management and Field Safety for a Remote Arctic Shoot
The challenge
ITN Productions commissioned a short-form documentary series covering climate resilience in the Arctic. One episode required a small film crew to embed with a scientific team operating in Svalbard during early spring conditions. The production had minimal cold-weather experience and needed a complete safety structure for working on sea ice, with polar bear risk, no medical cover on site, and volatile weather windows.
Our solution
Crux Outdoors was brought in during pre-production. We conducted a full remote risk audit of the site, consulted with the scientific team, and built a custom field safety plan covering cold injury protocols, polar bear deterrence, shelter strategy, and emergency communications. We sourced a polar-trained safety advisor to join the crew on location and facilitated pre-departure training on hypothermia management, satellite comms and clothing systems.
The shoot was completed successfully with no incidents, under harsh but controlled conditions. Feedback from the production team highlighted the value of having a safety lead on site who understood both the environment and the pressures of filming. The safety documentation was later adapted as a model for other remote filming projects commissioned by the same broadcaster.

Silverline Films – Feasibility Assessment and Location Vetting for an Amazon Survival Series
The challenge
Silverline Films was developing a high-profile adventure survival series to be filmed in the Brazilian Amazon. The intended location included multi-day travel upriver, filming in flooded rainforest, use of local fixers, and scenes involving natural hazards such as venomous wildlife and river crossings. The executive team needed clear visibility on whether the shoot was viable — and defensible — before committing.
Our solution
Crux Outdoors conducted a comprehensive desk-based and in-country feasibility study. We flew to Brazil to meet with fixers, assess the location’s suitability, and vet local emergency and extraction capabilities. This included assessing river transport risk, establishing safe operating zones, and building a risk matrix for filming scenes involving water, overnight hammocks, and bushcraft. We also provided a logistics brief for key departments, and advised on insurance requirements specific to that environment.
The production was approved internally with our report forming the backbone of their safety proposal. Several scenes were restructured to reduce unnecessary exposure while preserving creative integrity. Our assessment also prevented the use of an unreliable fixer and identified a more suitable secondary location with stronger medical access.
