Water Sports Instructor at Stranraer Water Sports Association

Contract Length: Until End of October 2024 (with the potential to extend to a full time for the right individual).

Contract Remuneration: Dependant on Experience

Reports to: SWSA Chief Instructor

 

Summary of Role:

To support the delivery of a structured, informative, and inclusive programme of activity, on and off the water, for children and adults for Stranraer Water Sports Association, Stranraer, South West Scotland.

This is an exciting time for Stranraer Watersports and a pivotal time to be joining the team, we have been successful in receiving funding from the Levelling Up Fund and about to start the build of new facilities ahead of 2025 season. We are also hosting the International Coastal Rowing World Championships (SkiffieWorlds 2025) next summer, so you have an opportunity to be involved in the set up and running of the event.

For the right individual this could be the start of an exciting opportunity to be part of our journey to grow and develop the watersports for the local community and beyond.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

1. Ensure an excellent standard of customer services and attitude at all times

2. Create a safe, informative and inclusive environment for all staff, volunteers and clients to operate in.

3. Prepare, organise and deliver a range of water and beach-based activities, in your relevant area of expertise as outlined in the governing body guidelines and the Stranraer Water Sports Operating procedures.

4. Ensure the highest standard of safety at all times.

5. Ensure that all equipment is maintained effectively and in a timely manner by liaising with Staff, Volunteers and SWSA Board.

6. Actively pursue personal development, and ensure that your knowledge of current governing body syllabi is excellent.

7. Flexibility in job role, with a desire to participate in the delivery of new activity out with your skill set.

8. Willingness to support engagement activities within schools, community organisations as required, promoting the Get Wet programme of activities

Personal requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience

· RYA Dinghy Instructor.

· RYA Safety Boat

· BSUPA Level 2 Instructor or Paddle UK equivalent

· Valid First Aid Certificate

· Experience delivering an activity programme.

· Previous customer service experience.

· Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients in high pressure situations, and report to Senior Instructor issues or complaints.

Desirable Qualifications and or experiences

· RYA Senior Instructor.

· RYA Powerboat Instructor.

· Dingy Racing

· Any Shore based Qualifications (RYA First Aid Instructor, SRC etc).

· Experience delivering first aid in practical situations.

Knowledge and abilities

· Able to deliver engaging and safe activity sessions to clients.

· Able to work in a team and individually and maintain effective working relationships.

· Able to work under own initiative and follow verbal and written instruction.

Personal Qualities

· Presentable and punctual at all times.

· Approachable, welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic.

· Self-motivated.

· Flexible approach to work in a rapidly changing industry. Stranraer water sports
