Aapprentice Outdoor Activities Instructor at Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre

The Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre commands stunning views looking out towards Plymouth’s historic Barbican area, the Hoe and across to Mount Edgcumbe. It is perfectly situated on the tidal estuary of The Sound, making it an ideal, and safe, location for the thousands of people, of all ages, that use the Centre each year – whether for recreational or professional use.

The Mount Batten Centre has a small, friendly, dedicated and highly experienced team, always on hand to ensure that visitors have an enjoyable time in a safe and welcoming environment.

Via training provider Channel Training, Mount Batten Centre are now seeking keen, motivated and dedicated people to join our popular Outdoor Activity Instructors Apprenticeship programme to start in September 2024 and which lasts 13-18 months.

You’ll complete all your training from the Mount Batten Centre, a key gateway to the newly formed Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, where you’ll be trained to instruct a wide range of water and land based adventurous activities. Following your training period you’ll then be deployed as an instructor delivering to school parties, youth groups, individuals and families.

Day to Day Duties:

  • Setting up and taking down of adventurous activity equipment

  • Instructing adventurous activities 

  • Completing maintenance tasks on adventurous activity equipment

 

Skills and qualifications:

Essential

  • Level 1 (GCSE Grade D / 3) in Functional Skills Maths and English

  • Must be enthusiastic, professional, punctual and reliable

  • Water-confident, team player, enthusiasm for adventurous activities

Desirable

  • An interest in working with children and young people

  • Prior experience of adventurous activities

Essential Details:

Salary Details: £6.40per hour – £240 per week

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week on an annualised hours contract, typically apprentices will train for 4-5 days across the autumn/winter and then be deployed for 5-6 days across the summer period

Potential start date: 30th September
