How it Works
VIP Welcome
Upon your arrival at the designated venue, you'll be warmly greeted by your personal adventure guide. Forget the hassle of setup; your cliffside suite is expertly prepared in advance. Your guide will give you a brief orientation, ensuring you're comfortable and excited for the adventure ahead.
Master the ropes, or let your instructor take full control
Safety is our top priority. Your guide will first establish a secure zone at the cliff top, complete with all necessary safety measures. You'll then receive hands-on instruction in the art of abseiling. With expert guidance, you'll make your descent to your private sky lounge, where adrenaline meets comfort.

Once you're securely anchored to your cliffside haven, your guide will retreat to a discreet distance. Yes! Cliff camping – when it’s done properly, as we do it – is completely safe. We use the best gear, and you will be attached to a separate rope at all times. While it’s not perhaps for the fainthearted, we find that just about everyone can rise to the challenge. We do everything necessary to put your mind at ease, and give you an experience of a lifetime.

Of course! You don’t need any previous climbing experience to go cliff camping. We’ll teach you all the basic skills you need before you descend to your camping spot. And we are always on hand, throughout the experience.

You will get the opportunity for a toilet break just before we abseil onto the portaledge. There will always be opportunity for a quick pee throughout the experience, as your instructor is always on hand to raise you from the ledge when necessary.
A number 2… we’ll be passing you a shovel and pointing you towards the bushes. This is of course the way of all wild campers across Scotland and is completely acceptable practice, just don’t expect a portaloo!

We have rapidly deployable covers called flysheets that we use in case it rains. So you will be tucked away in a cosy hanging tent.

Your instructor will be nearby throughout the whole experience In case you need any kind of assistance or reassurance, but far enough so you have your privacy.

Initially it may be a strange sensation. But once the initial adrenaline has worn off and you become comfortable with the concept, it’s just like sleeping on a camping bed. With much better views!

There is a weight limit of 200Kg on the portaledge. The combined weight of up to two participants must not exceed this.
In reality it’ll hold many time more that this weight, but as responsible operators we will not be exceeding the manufacturers stated maximum weight
What do you need to bring?
This depends on the time of year you are looking to go. We provide this experience throughout the year. We will advise you on what to take once you have booked.
Usually we would advise you to take some warm clothes, any personal medication and sanitary products, a rucksack, a water bottle, midge repellant, a head torch, a power bank, and of course your camera. We will provide everything else for your cliff camping experience.
Please note that we will hand you a rucksack full of all the personal gear that two people will need to abseil onto the portaledge. We recommend that you bring one large (30 - 45L) rucksack containing everything that the pair of you will need. This way no one will need to carry two bags.
