ADVENTURE, TRAVEL & EXPEDITION CONSULTANCY

Specialist safety, risk, and operational expertise for adventurous projects worldwide

Welcome

Crux Outdoors is an independent consultancy providing safety, risk management, and operational support for adventure, travel, expedition, and remote-location projects.

We work with film & TV productions, charities, adventure travel operators, NGOs, and expedition providers to ensure their operations are safe, ethical, and robust — without compromising ambition or impact.

Our approach combines strategic insight with real-world, boots-on-the-ground experience in some of the most challenging environments on earth. From pre-project planning and policy development to live location support and reconnaissance, we deliver solutions that work in the field as well as on paper.

Real-world experience. Professional oversight.

Led by Tom Giles, Crux Outdoors brings expedition-grade expertise to the planning, safety, and delivery of adventurous projects worldwide. From Arctic ice fields and Himalayan passes to African savannahs and the UK’s most challenging terrain, we’ve operated in environments where the margins are tight and decisions matter.

That experience now underpins our consultancy — providing the insight, structure, and field-tested solutions organisations need to operate confidently in remote or high-risk locations.

We work with charities, expedition companies, adventure travel operators, film and TV productions, and development teams, building systems and strategies that hold up in the real world, not just on paper.

Sarah McKenzie, Line Producer, Wild Horizon Films

"Crux Outdoors’ input from the earliest planning stage transformed our shoot. The risk assessment was meticulous, and the contingency planning meant that when weather shut down our primary location, we had a safe, fully viable alternative ready to go. The crew had absolute confidence in the plan — and in the team."
